A commendable partnership between Mountain Park Health Center and HCI Group

For more than 40 years, Mountain Park Health Center has provided convenient, affordable healthcare in the Phoenix-metro area. Each year we keep nearly 110,000 patients healthy through the hard work and commitment of about 1,200 employees (over 200 licensed providers) completing almost 400,000 encounters. As a primary medical home for nearly 110,000 patients, we provide Adult/Pediatric/OBGYN care, as well as Integrated Health, Dental, WIC, and Pharmacy services.

In October 2021, we were overwhelmed by the concerning risks with our clinical data interfaces which included data integrity challenges, duplication of data, data translations that required continuous mapping. Our clinicians were frustrated as orphan orders were left incomplete or results that would come through caused confusion of what had actually been ordered. These were just some of our challenges that grew into a massive hairball over a decade’s worth of integration history! Our providers were frustrated and burned out; we know we lacked the capacity to unravel this issue on our own.

After reaching out to our peers, HCI came to the rescue! We brought our concerns and they listened. Immediately, we were reassured that our frustrations were common, and that their team could bring us relief! In our first engagement, HCI provided a detailed analysis of all existing interfaces with a review of our current interface architecture compared to the industry standards. Having this documentation was critical to visualizing our current state and gaps. Furthermore, HCI worked with us to develop a project plan to optimize our interfaces and implement a much-needed interface engine. The analysis includes phases on how we could reach our intended future state. HCI offered various solutions & allowed us to pick what fits our capacity and budget. We could have stopped there but we knew we needed help to implement the interface engine.

HCI continued to partner with us in more ways than one. Our second engagement started off with the assignment of a Sr. Integration Analyst that would guide us through the interface engine implementation. However, the high-level expertise and professionalism of this Analyst demonstrated HCI’s commitment to improving healthcare systems! Not only did HCI get us to fully implement the interface engine, but they have also continued to provide guidance in building data governance standards, educated our internal teams on how to setup and maintain integration setups, and provide us project planning and management services across all areas of our IT team from PACS solution remediation to business application solutions.

Whether it be their Client Partners connecting us with industry leaders or their Sr. Integration Analyst taking the time to ensure we understand the most complex interface, HCI is truly committed to their customers. We would not have reached such success without their guidance, innovative spirits, and willingness to see us thrive. I am proud to call HCI our partners.
